Path Attenuation Estimates for the GPM Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR)

چکیده

Estimation of path attenuation is a critical part retrieving precipitation parameters using measurements from the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) on board Global Measurement Mission (GPM) satellite. In this paper, we describe latest implementation surface reference technique (SRT) that uses scattering properties to infer through precipitation. Both single- and dual-frequency versions method are available although version appears be more accurate at moderate rain rates, single-frequency approach Ku-band needed when Ka-band data not available. Despite improvements afforded by method, other methods such as Hitschfeld-Bordan standard approaches offer advantages particularly lighter rates near-nadir incidence angles over land. Weighted averages results these appear best estimate presently

Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) and Dual-Wavelength Radar (DPR)

Global precipitation measurement is essential not only for the research of the global change but also for the water resources management. Currently, satellite precipitation measurement is not sufficient for the detailed study of the precipitation and is far from enough for the water resources management which requires very high spatial and temporal resolution. To fill the gap at least partly, t...

Similarities and Improvements of GPM Dual-Frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) upon TRMM Precipitation Radar (PR) in Global Precipitation Rate Estimation, Type Classification and Vertical Profiling

Spaceborne precipitation radars are powerful tools used to acquire adequate and highquality precipitation estimates with high spatial resolution for a variety of applications in hydrological research. The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission, which deployed the first spaceborne Kaand Ku-dual frequency radar (DPR), was launched in February 2014 as the upgraded successor of the Tropical...

Variable pulse repetition frequency for the GPM dual-frequency radar

In space missions, the delay of a receiving signal to a transmission signal generally spans a few thousands microseconds due to long range observation. An efficient sampling can be achieved by transmitting pulses successively, as schematically shown in Fig. 1. For the later consideration, a catching integer n is to be introduced. In Fig. 1, the catching integer n is set at 11, for which a pulse...
